Has anyone purchased one of these, and how did it work out? Recommendations or otherwise? I see devices for as little as $10, and right on up. So, now I decided to check on e-bay for something to scan my codes. They assured me that their new software would not work with my old cable on one of those USB to Serial adapters. My cost would be $280, plus shipping, tax, and duty. Ross-Tech generously offered $10 off my order of new software and a new USB cable, if I could e-mail them a copy of the original invoice with which I purchased their license. I inquired about getting a newer version of Vag-Com software, and a new cable. It still works ok, and save for the battery hassle, seems to give acceptable results. This vag-com thing has paid for itself many times over, and it has scanned many fellow dubbers cars. The interface cable is for a DB9 serial port. A couple of years ago, the battery on the laptop cratered, and now I use an inverter plugged into the lighter socket to run the laptop so I (I mean my assistant) can Vag-Com while driving around. It runs on my 1998 vintage windoze 98 IBM thinkpad 380Z. I have the Ross-Tech Vag-Com system, that I paid like $300+ for back in 2001.
